Relating back to blog posts such as Patagonia – Ethical Beliefs Meet Ethical Marketing and Ethical Symbols Explained, we are taking a look at sustainable fashion. A brand that has continued to grow and display ethical values in how they run their business is Reformation.

Reformation is a clothing brand based in Los Angeles, California. With a focus on women’s apparel, outerwear, and bridal, they have continued to grow. Their ethics involve using sustainable fabrics, purchases on carbon offsets, and paying living wages.

Creating products from sustainable and upcycled materials in a fair wage environment is only one way they reel customers in. They have also continued to offer on-trend pieces that alter into even more stylish pieces for seasons to come. Although they may be pricey for most, they hope to make a large impact on fashion. Fashion pieces ranging from $17 to $450 on their website is apparent that they are trying to be flexible and open to their customer aim.

Third most polluting industry in the world…

Reformation’s website also gives lengthy information on Design Process, Ref fiber standards, and a list of the exact fabrics being used in their fashion pieces.

Most of us may not know that “Fashion is the third most polluting industry in the world, and one of the largest consumers of water”. Because of this fact, Reformation has continued to share their knowledge on resource use, climate change, and other impacts in fashion to create awareness. In creating that awareness, they also persuade fashion lovers to purchase from them rather than unsustainable fashion brands.

What is also quite interesting about Reformation as a brand it’s focuses on efforts that have the biggest impact. Their four main areas of influence include Product, People, Planet, and Progress. They state: “We have mapped our goals and programs for the next 5 years (2019-2023) and want to share them with you.”. Being so open and knowledgable about their sustainability framework will hopefully influence others to follow in their footsteps. We only have one earth and its time we start caring for it.

We are Reformation

Another surprising and beautiful ethical move Reformation takes is caring for their employees. They give a full tour of their factors, along with a picture and name of the employees that create the clothing we purchase from Reformation.

Under their “We are Reformation” section they state: “There are people behind the clothes we wear, and too often they work under terrible conditions. That’s why we built our own sustainable factory in Los Angeles, where we work with awesome people from all over the world.” They host factory tours for the public every first Friday of the month which is amazing and different from other “ethical” or non-ethical brands and clothing companies.
