“As Iron sharpens iron, one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 Encourage an environment balanced with challenge and growth to yield employees that are as sharp as iron.
Every CEO wants to build a successful brand and business that is as sharp as iron. The best way to do so is to surround yourself with encouraging people. People who are different enough to highlight flaws in plans to be fixed but similar in the desire to succeed.
What does “iron sharpens iron” mean?
The phrase means that working together is better than working apart. When working alone, the iron is only as strong as itself. When working together, the iron is twice as strong.
How does that look in a business setting?
Putting this phrase to use in a business setting means focusing on bettering each other and the environment.
Make sure to understand your employees skill and put them to good use.
Even pairing two opposite minded people in a group work task will enhance their abilities and make them stronger, “sharper” minded people.
Should I pair together people who don’t get along?
My first initial reaction would be no. However, I would encourage you to challenge your employees.
Ask if they would be interested in working together. Pose it as a challenge. The challenge will make them sharp as iron, as well as potentially diffuse the riff between them.
How should I encourage cultivating this “sharp as iron” type of business environment?
Being willing to grow yourself!
Maintain your status as work role model and leader, but have a willingness to learn.
A willing attitude to learn is what starts the progression towards becoming sharp as iron.
If you, as the leader of the work environment, are not willing to set the example of being a listener, a learner, and be sharpened, none of your employees will see any reason to do so themselves!
“In everything, set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching, show integrity and seriousness. ”Titus 2:7
